What CANDIL has been up to
Julie was busy organizing the fundraiser. Posters
are in and need to be put up and tickets are now
available (Note: Later in the month, Hans von Sponeck
had to cancel for medical reasons. We have postponed
the event for a later date).
Julie presented to the Council of Canadians on the
Black Flag Campaign and had some challenges to CANDIL's
position on Iraq, but defended our views quite readily.
She also presented at the U of C to the International
Social Work graduate studies class and had a student
approach her with regards to doing a practicum with
Candil. She suggested this person do a proposal
for us and we would review it.She rounded up the
month by presenting at a few more schools.
A black flag making session was held on Saturday,
February 12 at Parkdale United church for the March
19th rally.
CANDIL's meetings with Calgary MP's will continue
in March. At the meetings, CANDIL's stance on the
continuing illegal occupation of Iraq was made clear
to the MP's.
Non-Standard Issue for March will focus on the second
anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. The next issue
will be in May and will be focusing on Tibet.
In January, at the movie night, we showed Coca Mama
and was a great success. We had about 40 people
out.
CANDIL is producing t-shirts for the Black Flag Campaign
and to remember the civilian casulities. They were
designed and produced by Moksha (Liberate your soul).
Contact info@candil.ca if you are interested in
purchasing one.
Moksha Designs (the t shirt supplier) is holding
a pub night at Brewster's Pub on March 31 to raise
money for Candil.
