CANDIL has had a very busy month
It started off with Julie Hrdlicka and Noel Ainsley
visiting more schools in the city. They've had a
good response and one school had a bake sale and
is selling pencils to raise money for the adopt
a town project. They also made postcards to send
with Noel, who is currently on his trip to Jordan
where he'll meet up with a Life For Relief contact
who will take the cards to Iraq.
Our last movie night was Unprecedented: The 2000
Election and all who attended found it very informative
and enjoyed the lively discussion afterwards. The
next movie night will be on November 26 and we'll
be showing Liberty Bound.
CANDIL has recently formulated a working position
paper on Iraq, which is available on the website,
where we take a more in-depth look at possible solutions
to the conflict and occupation.
We're also working on a dinner event for March 19,
2005 where we'll bring in 1 or possibly 2 keynote
speakers. Keep an eye on our website for more information
as we finalize things.
Collette Lemieux, a CANDIL board member, went to
the Peace Conference in Toronto on November 6 and
7th. She felt it was a excellent and informative
experience. Watch for her comments in the next Non-Standard
Issue.
CANDIL co-hosted a benefit premier of The Take at
the Uptown theatre on November 10. Director Avi
Lewis was in attendance, the evening was a sell
out and a great success. For all you who missed
it we encourage everybody to see this fantastic
film which is currently showing at the Uptown in
Calgary and at theatres across the country.
We had a candle making session for the upcoming Peace
Fair and want to thank everyone who came out to
help and hope to see you all at this event.
Our next Non Standard will be out in early January.
This issue will feature an op-ed by Collette Lemieux
with her thoughts on the Peace Conference, an update
on BMD and will focus on Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine.
Looking forward to the spring we hope to send at
least one representative to New York for the UN's
Non- Proliferation Conference.
