The Black Flag Campaign

A Campaign to remember those Iraqi civilians who have died during the two years of attack on Iraq.

In Iraq, deaths are announced by black flags which are displayed on buildings, fences or poles up and down the city streets. During this war 100,000 Iraqi's have been killed.

The occupying powers refuse to count the bodies of those who have died. The Black Flag Campaign is working at bringing dignity to those who have been casualties in the war.

We won't let their deaths go unacknowledged!

March 19, 2005 marks the second anniversary of the war against Iraq, support the campaign The Black Flag Coalition (403) 270-9669 or .

We encourage people to make their own black flags and put them on their homes on their cars or such.

You just need a piece of cotton material such as a sheet. If you can't find a black sheet you can use a white one and paint or spray paint it black.

Some suggestions of information to write on the flag:

  • The name of one of those who have died.
The names of over 3,000 victims are listed at www.iraqbodycount.net/names.htm.

  • You could use the phrase "Peace be with you".
  • When the person died and their age.

Any more questions or concerns please contact CANDIL. If you would like to have a flag making session in your church, community or youth group let us know and we can help you get organized

Our hope is that your flag will be used and displayed at events (demonstrations, protests or vigils) happening in your city March 19 & 20, 2005.

For more information about events happening in your city go to www.acp-cpa.ca/en/
